0% VAT Rate on AEDs in Ireland
In his budget speech in 2022, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe announced that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) would be eligible for a 0% VAT rate in Ireland starting on January 1, 2023. This is great news for those looking to purchase an AED, as the current VAT rate in Ireland is 23%.
Saving lives with an AED
Having an AED on hand can be essential in an emergency, as it can be used to deliver an electric shock to the heart in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, potentially saving someone's life.
“Every minute counts when someone has a cardiac arrest – and without CPR or defibrillation, the chances of survival decrease by 10 per cent. The earlier an AED is used, the better a person’s chances of surviving a cardiac arrest”
- Irish Heart Foundation Chris Macey, Director of Advocacy
